Improved Characterization of Soft Tissue Mechanical Properties Using a Combination of Stress Relaxation and Creep

چکیده
INTRODUCTION Mechanical characterization of articular cartilage, soft tissues and gels is important for biomechanical reference data and for functional assessment of biopsied or engineered tissue. Common techniques include dynamic mechanical spectroscopy [1] and stress relaxation [2], with the latter often favored for technical simplicity. While reliable, stress relaxation measurements of cartilage mechanical properties are still subject to significant uncertainty. Using a limiting solution of the poroelastic governing equations, we have developed an approach which combines creep and stress relaxation to effectively double the amount of data available from soft tissue mechanical characterization experiments with only a small increase in the experimental time required.

A Nano-indentation Identification Technique for Viscoelastic Constitutive Characteristics of Periodontal Ligaments
Introduction: Nano-indentation has recently been employed as a powerful tool for determining the mechanical properties of biological tissues on nano and micro scales. A majority of soft biological tissues such as ligaments and tendons exhibit viscoelastic or time-dependent behaviors. The constitutive characterization of soft tissues is among very important subjects in clinical medicine and espe...
متن کاملA Mathematical Approach for Describing Time-Dependent Poisson’s Ratios of Periodontal Ligaments
Periodontal ligament is a thin layer of soft tissue that connects root of a tooth to the surrounding alveolar bone. These ligaments play an important role in initiating tooth movement when loads are applied to teeth with orthodontic appliances. The majority of such soft tissues exhibit as viscoelastic bodies or have a time-dependent behavior. Due to the viscoelastic behavior of the periodontal ...

Creep age forming (CAF) is one of the novel methods in aerospace industry that has been used to manufacture components of panels with improved mechanical properties and reduced fabrication cost. CAF is a combined age-hardening and stress-relaxation that are responsible for strengthening and forming, respectively. This paper deals with the experimental investigations of mechanical and springback...
متن کاملCreep Stress Redistribution Analysis of Thick-Walled FGM Spheres
Time-dependent creep stress redistribution analysis of thick-walled FGM spheres subjected to an internal pressure and a uniform temperature field is investigated. The material creep and mechanical properties through the radial graded direction are assumed to obey the simple power-law variation throughout the thickness. Total strains are assumed to be the sum of elastic, thermal and creep strain...
